Acupuncture uses a technique of inserting needles to certain areas of your body to relieve such area of pain.

What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the alternative forms of medicine that a lot of people take advantage of. This form involves inserting needles into specific points in the body. Acupuncture is a traditional form of Chinese medicine and has been around for centuries. But, it is still widely popular today.

Benefits of Acupuncture

A lot of benefits can be obtained by a patient from this traditional form of Chinese medicine. These include:

  • Pain relief
  • Improved blood flow
  • Reduced fatigue
  • Promote overall well-being
  • and more…

What To Expect During An Acupuncture Session

First and foremost, the practitioner will conduct a comprehensive assessment focused on your health history. The info obtained from this assessment can help determine how long the therapy should last, where the needles should be placed and more. It is important that every patient answers the questions truthfully for safety and health reasons. For instance, those with bleeding disorders should inform the practitioner about their conditions. They should also check first with their physicians about their interest in going through acupuncture.

Once the initial assessment is completed, the insertion of needles will begin afterwards. You might feel a stinging or sharp sensation upon the insertion of each needle but it will be momentary only. The needles are placed in certain locations of your body, making sure that they are inserted not deep enough to puncture any major internal organ. The needles stay on these locations from 5 minutes to less than an hour, depending on your medical condition.

Afterwards, a re-assessment will be conducted. Care instructions at home will also be discussed. Treating an acute condition may last from 2 to 4 sessions. Chronic ones may range from 12 or more sessions.
